NEW DELHI, Aug 5, 2023 (BSS) - Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi today observed the 74th birth anniversary of valiant Freedom Fighter Shaheed Captain Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, in a befitting manner.
In observance of the day, the mission organized an elaborate programme including holding discussion, screening of documentary and offering a special prayer seeking diving blessings of Shaheed Sheikh Kamal and continued peace, progress and prosperity of Bangladesh.
The programmes began with placing of floral wreaths at the portrait of Captain Sheikh Kamal on the chancery premises by Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Md. Mustafizur Rahman.
Messages from President Mohammad Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the occasion were also read out.
The High Commissioner later presided over a discussion session on the life and works of Sheikh Kamal at the chancery's Bangabandhu conference hall.
In his speech, Rahman paid tributes to the memory of Shaheed Sheikh Kamal for his exceptional leadership quality in the field of sports, art and music after the 1971 War of Liberation.
The envoy said he (Sheikh Kamal) got all his attributes from his family and these attributes were reflected in his personal, social and cultural life.
He also recalled Sheikh Kamal's role during the liberation war when he acted as the ADC of Commander-in-chief Gen. MAG Osmani. Though his life was cut short on the fatal night of August 15, 1975, Shaheed Sheikh Kamal left behind his significant mark as an ideal Bangali during his short lifetime, he added.
Selim Md Jahangir, Minister (Consular) of the Mission also spoke on the occasion and reflected on the legacy of the valiant freedom fighter Shaheed Captain Sheikh Kamal.
The 74th birth anniversary of Shaheed Sheikh Kamal was also observed in Bangladesh Deputy and assistant High Commissions in Kolkata, Mumbai, Agartala and Guwahati in a befitting Mannar.
