China won't interfere in Bangladesh's internal affairs: Mannan

DHAKA, Aug 16, 2023 (BSS) - China will not interfere in any internal matter or in the political affairs of any country such as Bangladesh.

"China will not interfere in any matter or political affair of a country ....China thinks it's the jurisdiction of the respective country. China will continue to work with Bangladesh," said Planning Minister MA Mannan quoting Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka Yao Wen as saying.

The Chinese Ambassador met the Planning Minister at his office in the city's Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area today. Mannan briefed reporters after the meeting.

During the meeting, they discussed a wide range of issues, including trade and investment as well as boosting economic cooperation.

The Planning Minister said that the policy of China is that they would not interfere in the internal matters of any country as it is the jurisdiction of that country. "I've assured him (Ambassador) that Bangladesh considers China as one of the important neighbouring countries. We're enjoying China's friendship like in the past and we'll continue to enjoy it in the future also."

Mannan said the Chinese Ambassador has said that China can share their experiences with Bangladesh as they have a wide range of experiences in infrastructural development.

Noting that a door of immense opportunities has opened up in South-Western Bangladesh after the launching of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge, Mannan said the Chinese Ambassador has apprised him of their ongoing work to enhance the capacity of the Mongla Port.

Mannan said the Chinese Ambassador had informed him that Chinese investors can invest in Bangladesh's solar power and electric vehicle industry sectors.

Considering the smooth graduation of Bangladesh from the LDCs, the Planning Minister said China would continue to support Bangladesh to strengthen economic cooperation as well as ensure duty-free and quota-free access to Bangladeshi products to the Chinese market. A Free Trade Agreement (FTA) can be signed between the two countries in this regard as the Ministry of Commerce is working on it, he added.

The Planning Minister said China is always ready to provide necessary investment and technological support to Bangladesh since it is a friendly and economically emerging country.

Mannan said the Chinese Ambassador also assured that the officials of the Ministry of Planning of Bangladesh would be able to take training in relevant fields in China.
