BRAHMANBARIA, Aug 21, 2023 (BSS)- At least four people were killed and three others injured when a covered van hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Sohagpur bus stand area under Ashuganj upazila of the district today.

The deceased were identified as CNG driver Md Sohail Miah,27, son of Farida Miah, resident of Baraibari village in Sarail upazila of the district, Md Jilani, 8, son of Nazmul Miah, resident of the same village, Ashkar Miah,60,resident of Shakhaiti village of Panishar union and Ujjal, 35, son of Md Rashid, resident of Mirzapur village under Itna Police Station area of Kishoreganj district.

The accident occurred when a Dhaka-bound covered van lost control over the steering and hit a standing CNG-run auto-rickshaw at around 12.30pm, leaving three people dead on the spot and four others injured, said Akul Chandra Biswas, officer-in-charge (OC) of Khatihata Highway Police Station. The three injured, who died on the spot, were passengers of CNG-run auto-rickshaw, he added.

Another victim died on way to the District Sadar Hospital, he said.
Later, the injured have been sent to Dhaka for better treatment in critical condition.

Legal action will be taken in this connection, the OC added.
