Sheikh Hasina is essential for continuing development spree: Enamul Hoque

DHAKA, Aug 25, 2023 (BSS) - Deputy Minister for Water Resources AKM Enamul Hoque Shameem today said that there is no alternative to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to continue the ongoing development activities across the country.

"The world leaders are now lauding Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's leadership in carrying out massive development in the last decade and tackling natural calamities in the country," he said.

Enamul Hoque, also former vice-president of JU Central Students' Union (JUCSU), said these while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion here this afternoon.

Jahangirnagar University (JU) BCS Officers' Forum (JUBOF) organised the discussion at Probashi Kalyan Bhaban auditorium in the city's Eskaton area, marking the 48th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Mourning Day.

JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Nurul Amin spoke as the main speaker with JUBOF President and Senior Secretary of the Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry Dr. Ahmed Munirus Saleheen in the chair.

Enamul Hoque said Bangabandhu is the only leader of the world under whose leadership the whole the then East Pakistan was run though he was not the prime minister or president of Pakistan.

Noting that Bangabandhu cannot be compared with any world leader, he said Bangabandhu formed the Awami League (AL) gradually with his hard work and made the party the most successful one by taking wise decisions in each transitional period of the country.

Bangabandhu's killers and their associates, including Khondaker Moshtaq Ahmed and Ziaur Rahman, wanted to halt the country's development through August 15 carnage, he said, adding, "But Bangabandhu's daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina proved their assumption false".

JU former VC Professor Dr Shariff Enamul Kabir and Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Whip Abu Sayeed Al Mahmood Swapon spoke as special guests while JUBOF Vice President and Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Dr Kh Mahid Uddin Swapan and General Secretary and Deputy Commissioner (DC) for Detective Branch of DMP Abdul Ahad spoke at the discussion, among others.

Abu Sayeed said Bangabandhu established himself as a unique leader in the history of the world by liberating a country twice -- once in 1971 by leading a great war starting with historical March 7 speech and later in 1972 by establishing absolute sovereignty by sending back the last shoulder of Indian army.

On the onset of the programme, one minute silence was observed in the memories of Bangabandhu, his family members and the martyrs of the Liberation War.
