SANGSAD BHABAN, Sept 04, 2023 (BSS)-Railway Minister M Nurul Islam Sujan today said nearly 20,000 posts now remain vacant in Bangladesh Railway while some 2,880 persons have already been employed in the Railway during last nine months in different categories.
“About 20,000 posts now remain vacant in Bangladesh Railway in different categories “, he said while replying to a query made by treasury bench lawmaker M Abdul Latif of Chattogram-11 during the question-answer session at the Jatiya Sangsad here.
Sujan said the recruitment process is going on aiming to reduce the manpower crisis.
“We are hopeful that the manpower crisis will be resolved shortly”, he told the parliament with Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
Bangladesh Railway has taken various initiatives to raise the passenger service quality of the inter-city trains. A total of 130 new broad-gauge coaches, 258 meter-gauge coaches, 30 meter-gauge and 25 broad-gauge locomotives have been added with the train services in the last five years, the minister elaborated.
Moreover, procurement of 89 meter-gauge coach, 220 broad-gauge coach, 75 meter-gauge luggage van, 50 broad-gauge luggage van, 580 meter-gauge wagon, 420 broad-gauge wagon and 15 broad-gauge locomotives are now being under process.
Quality foods and onboard facilities also have been ensured inside the railway for the passengers and as a result, the travel of the railway passengers become more comfortable and safe, the minister noted.
