JS (Women Reserved Seat) Election (amendment) Bill 2023 placed in parliament 

SANGSAD BHABAN, Sept 5, 2023 (BSS) - Jatiya Sangsad (Women Reserved Seat) Election (Amendment) Bill, 2023 was placed in the Jatiya Sangsad here today with an aim to bring an amendment of an existing law of 2004.

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq placed the bill in the House with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair. 

Piloting the bill, the minister said the amount of security deposit for contesting in women's reserved seats of the Jatiya Sangsad has been increased to Taka 20,000 from the existing Taka 10,000.

The amount of security deposit for contesting in general seats of the Jantiya Sangsad is also Taka 20,000, he added.

The draft law also proposed holding by-polls to women's reserved seats, if any of the seats becomes vacant, within 90 days like the general seats, which was earlier 45 days, according to the proposed bill.

The law minister urged the House to send the bill to the relevant parliamentary standing committee for providing report within a week.
