RAJSHAHI, Sept 6, 2023 (BSS) - Bangladesh is a bright instance of communal harmony as people of all faiths have been living with tranquility besides observing their respective religious festivals with liberty for long.
There is a need for integrated efforts of people of all faiths and religions to further strengthen the existing fraternity and friendly bonding to ensure national advancement and prosperity.
Teachers of Rajshahi University (RU) came up with the observation while addressing their janmashtami celebration meeting held at its central temple premises today.
Janmastami, the birth anniversary of Lord Sri Krishna and one of the major festivals of the Hindu community, was celebrated at the campus amid festivity and religious fervour as elsewhere in the country.
The day's programmes include colourful rally, worship of Lord Krishna, GeetaJagna, Kirtan, rally, distribution of sweetmeats and discussions.
RU Pro-vice-chancellor (Administration) Prof Sultan-Ul-Islam addressed the discussion as chief guest, while Pro-vice-chancellor (Academic) Prof Humayun Kabir, Vice-chancellor of North Bengal International University Prof Bidhan Chandra Das and Pro-vice-chancellor of Varendra University Prof Ananda Kumar Saha spoke as special guests with President of RU Central Temple Operational Committee Prof Komol Krishna Biswas in the chair.
Former vice-chancellor of North Western University Prof Tarapada Bhowmik spoke on the occasion as focal person, while Dr Ranjan Kumar Barman welcomed the participants.
Prof Sultan-Ul-Islam viewed that the present government under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working relentlessly so that people of all religions can live with peace and enjoy equal rights.
Prof Bidhan Chandra Das said the present government is very positive and cautious to uphold the dignity of the nation. As a result, the country is now being widely judged as a unique example of communal harmony, he added.
He said a responsive and positive role by all quarters is very important for maintaining peace and communal and social harmony.
For the sake of building the nation as a peaceful motherland, all conscious, patriotic and peace-loving people should come forward and work together, he added.
