Newly constructed Jail training centre in Rajshahi waits for opening

RAJSHAHI, Sept 11, 2023 (BSS) - Construction work of the Jail training centre in Rajshahi is on the final stage and the state-owned installation is expected to further brighten the image of the city.

The Department of Public Works has implemented the Jail Training Centre in Rajshahi project on 24 acres of land of the 66-acre compound of Rajshahi Central Jail at a cost of around Taka 94 crore.

Deputy Inspector General of Prison in Rajshahi division Kamal Hossain said almost all the scheduled works were completed aimed at developing skilled workforces through time-fitting training for prison management properly. As a whole, the centre is waiting for opening.

Around 500 jail wardens and officials will get scopes of getting modern training here as currently 320 get the opportunity.

Various new physical infrastructures, including administrative and academic block-cum-multipurpose auditorium, a six-storied trainee barrack for female staff and another two-storied barrack for male staff, were constructed.

Besides, a parade ground, space for guard of honour, boundary wall with gate and number of multi-storied residential buildings were also built.

Kamal Hossain said they have also constructed a water treatment plant, rainwater harvesting, new floors in MI building and dining-cum-kitchen room.

Main objective of the project is to elevate knowledge and competence of the jail officials and wardens through necessary training after enhancing infrastructure facilities.

He said the trained manpower of the jail department will play a positive role towards supplementing the government efforts of transforming the jails into correction centres.

After getting training, the jail wardens will be enriched with the knowledge about how to behave with the prisoners and how they will protect their human rights
 
The jail wardens and other officials concerned will start their profession with a positive attitude and stand against all anti-social activities. Besides, the recruits will hold on to their ethics and values and keep up their efforts to ensure human rights.
