CUMILLA, Oct 1, 2023 (BSS) - The 117th birth anniversary of Sachin Dev Burman, one of the most iconic composers of the subcontinent, was observed at his birth place here today by the Deputy Commissioner's Office.

To mark the day, Deputy Commissioner of Cumilla Khondoker Md Mushfiqur Rahman placed a floral wreath at the portrait Sachin Dev Burman at Uttor Chartha in Cumilla city this morning.

Later district police, district Shilpakala academy, Nazrul Institute, Cumilla Cultural Complex, Cumilla Sangskritik Jote, Yusuf High School and Cumilla Charu Shilpi Parishad also placed floral wreaths at the portrait of the famous musician.

The legend was born on October 1, 1906 as one of the nine children of the Royal Tripura family in Cumilla, Bengal Presidency (in present-day Bangladesh).

Burman started his musical career in Bengal as a singer of folk and light classical music, and worked in more than a hundred Hindi and Bangla films. His illustrious film singing career began with Tinkari Chakraborthy's Sanjher Pidim (1935).

The singer passed away on October 31, 1975.
