DHAKA, Sept 3, 2021 (BSS) – Bangladesh High Commission in London today clarified that Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Manchester in the UK has been entitled to exemption from local taxes and duties since establishment in 1973.
The London mission made the clarification in a press release as its attention has been drawn to a news item that appeared in some newspapers and online media regarding non-payment of council taxes by the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Manchester.
“The news was blatantly misleading and lacked substance,” the Bangladesh London mission said in the release.
The exemption from local taxes and duties for the Bangladesh mission in Manchester is based on the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations 1961 and Vienna Convention on Consular Relations 1963, as well as guidelines from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), it added.
The release noted that the Mission pays all other local service charges, such as waste collection fees, regularly.
“We request all concerned not to be misled by such baseless reports and contact the Mission for further clarification,” said the Bangladesh High Commission in London.
