DHAKA, Oct 14, 2023 (BSS) - The Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) of police has arrested an active member of newly formed militant outfit 'Tawheed Uluhiyyah (Al-Zihadi)' in a drive in the city's Pallabi area in Mirpur.
The arrestee has been identifies as Badhan Hossain (28), son of Zillur Rahman of Akkelpur upazila in Joypurhat, said an ATU press release here today.
On a tip-off, an ATU team conducted a drive in Pallabi area in the city and arrested Badhan at 11:30am on Thursday, the release added.
Earlier, the ATU personnel arrested founder of the militant outfit Jewel Mollah from Bagerhat on September 14 and two other active members Ruhul from Akkelpur of Joypurhat on September 15 and Gaziul Islam from Bhasantek in the city on September 16 this year, it said.
Different evidences including eight flags of the outfit were seized from their procession, the release said, adding that a regular case was lodged with Rampal Police Station of Bagerhat district against them on September 16 under the Anti-Terrorism Act while Badhan was an accused in the case.
Badhan has already acknowledged his involvement with the militant outfit 'Tawheed Uluhiyyah (Al-Zihadi)' in the court, the release said.
All of them are former members of outlawed militant group 'Ansar Al Islam', the release said, adding that they were spreading extremist videos and audios through facebook and whatsapp to harm the country's democratic process and collect members to carryout sabotages across the country.
The ATU members are working to arrest other members of the new militant outfit, it said.
