RAJSHAHI, Oct 14, 2023 (BSS)- State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, MP, has said the historic Varendra Research Museum (VRM) is the pride symbol of Rajshahi as well as the Bangalee nation.
He also mentioned that the VRM is not only a museum but also a research centre and it has been playing a pioneer role towards portraying heritage of the entire Rajshahi region.
The state minister came up with the observation while inaugurating a two-day heritage festival at VRM premises here today as the chief guest.
Vice-chancellor of Rajshahi University Prof Golam Sabbir Sattar, British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Sarah Cooke and Director of Bangladesh - British Council Tom Miscioscia also addressed the opening ceremony.
The first museum established in erstwhile East Bengal in 1910, VRM is very much a popular and tourist attraction contributing a lot to showcasing the century-old historical and archeological artifacts.
Located in Hossainiganj area in Rajshahi metropolis and run by Rajshahi University, the museum is enriched with the monuments that still defied the ravages of man and nature.
In the festival, 30 youngsters are showcasing, displaying and performing their diversified artistic and cultural works on heritage, culture, music, dance, drama, folk, film show, fine arts, creative workshop and Rajshahi's heritage.
State Minister Shahriar Alam said history, heritage and culture of any country can be known through its museum. Knowledge, intelligence and talents are flourished by the persons who worked with history, heritage and culture to a greater extent.
He urged the new generations to visit museums regularly to know about the history and cultural heritage of the country properly.
