DHAKA, Oct 17, 2023 (BSS) - After elaborately scrutinizing the 'Bangladesh
Film Certification Bill 2023, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the
ministry of Information and Broadcasting today recommended placing the bill
at the parliament.
The committee came up with the recommendation at its 13th meeting held at the
Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban here with Committee Chairman Hasanul Haque Inu in the
chair, said a press release.
"After a detailed discussion in a meeting today, the Committee recommends
placing 'The Bangladesh Film Certification Bill-2023' to the national
parliament with necessary amendments, additions, refinements and
supplements", said the release.
In the meeting, detailed discussion on 'The Bangladesh Film Certification
Act-2023' was took place and a report was presented in this regard by the
ministry, added the release.
Committee member also Minister Information and Broadcasting Dr Hasan Mahmud,
Committee member Kazi Keramat Ali, Begum Simin Hossen Rimi, Md Shafiqur
Rahamn, Md Murad Hossen, Kh Momota Hena Lovely and Md Ali Arafat attended the
meeting.
Senior Secretary of Information and broadcasting, Managing Director and Chief
Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), Director General of Bangladesh
Television, Director General of Bangladesh Betar, Principal Information
Officer and chiefs of various institutions of the ministry, among others,
were also present.
Earlier on September 05, the bill was placed in the parliament by Information
and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud with an objective of development
and protecting the creativity of the film industries.
The information minister urged the House to send the bill to the concerned
parliamentary standing committee for providing report within 14 days.
Piloting the bill, the minister said the proposed law will replace the
Censorship of Films Act, 1963 and it [the proposed act] will play significant
role in overall development, certification and displaying of film and
protecting the local film industry as well.
