DHAKA, Oct 18, 2023 (BSS)-Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque today said the home ministry’s public security division senior secretary Mustafizur Rahman was given responsibility of coordination to prevent chaos, as some political parties have a tendency to deteriorate the law and order.
“A section of people from different political parties have tendency to carry illegal weapons, engage sabotage acts and religious provocation to deteriorate law and order,” he told the journalists after a meeting on the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order at the home ministry conference room.
AKM Mozammel Haque, also the Chairman of the committee, said, “We have discussed about security issues so that no incident can occur and the law and order forces can always be aware to provide security to people's lives and properties.”
He said the senior secretary has been given the responsibility to coordinate various forces to maintain law and order and also coordinate all these tasks of the forces.
Mozammel Haque said all law enforcement chiefs will also be in the coordination team as member. “They will discuss and coordinate what should be done. But the Home Minister is the key person to this end,” he added.
Replying to a question, he said that there is no obstacle in political work in the country as Bangladesh is a democratic state and every party except the outlawed party could carry out political programmes, the government has no plan to create barrier anyone's work.
He also mentioned that action will be taken against not only the political parties but anyone's activities if there is a deterioration of law and order or if any threat to the safety of public life.
The liberation war affairs minister said that the government employees will conduct their dope test and the Dope Test (Drug Detection Test) is being renamed as 'Drug Abuse Test'.
Centering the elections, illegal weapons may come from outside the country. That is why all the law and order forces, specially the BGB, have been instructed to be more careful, he added.
“We have expressed concern that the Hundi business (money laundering) has adversely affected the country's economy. We have talked about how to be more proactive to stop it. Money is being laundered abroad through gambling. In the light of the information that has come in the newspaper, instructions have been given to conduct raids and take action against the offenders,” he added.
