SANGSAD BHABAN, Oct 25, 2023 (BSS) - Road Transport and Bridges Minister
Obaidul Quader today said the country has over 58.51 lakhs authorized legal
motor vehicles.
"Country has some 58,51,827 legal motorized vehicles as those vehicles are
legally certified by the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) for
plying on the road", he said.
The minister revealed this while responding to a star-marked question which
was tabled and raised by treasury bench lawmaker Benzir Ahmed of Dhaka -20 at
the question-answer session at the Jatiya Sangsad here.
Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury was in the chair.
Any person or owner of a motor vehicle would not get permission to ply motor
vehicles on the road, highways or public places without having registration
certificate as per the newly enacted Road Transport Act 2018.
Replying to another query raised by another treasury bench lawmaker Shafiqul
Islam of Natore-2, the minister said the country has a total of 1,350 buses
under the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC).
These BRTC buses are being operated in sixty-three districts across the
country except the Bandarban district.
Even the government has a plan to procure 100 double-decker electric buses.
