Maximum electricity demand in current fiscal is 15,500MW, Nasrul tells JS 

SANGSAD BHABAN, Oct 26, 2023 (BSS) - State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid today said country's electricity demand for the current fiscal will rise to 15,500 megawatts.
 
"Country's maximum electricity demand will increase to nearly 15,500 megawatts in the current 2023-24 fiscal year", he said.

The state minister was responding to a star-marked question which was tabled and raised by Jatiya Party lawmaker Kazim Uddin Ahmed of Mymensingh-11 at the question-answer session at the Jatiya Sangsad here.

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury presided over it.

In 2021-22, country's maximum demand was nearly 14,800 megawatts. The government is implementing short, medium and long term planning for developing the power sector.

At present, the electricity demands in residential, commercial and industrial sector are respectively 55%, 11% and 27%.

Country's power generation capacity in the last fifteen years has increased to 28,562 megawatts by raising nearly 23,792 megawatts connecting with the national grids, Hamid added.
