DHAKA, Oct 29, 2023 (BSS) - Environment, Forest and Climate Change minister Md Shahab Uddin today said the death of internationally renowned Bangladeshi climate expert and director of the International Center for Climate Change and Development Prof Dr Saleemul Huq Haque is an irreparable loss to Bangladesh as well as the world.
Expressing deep shock at his death, the minister said Prof Huq has made outstanding contributions to combating climate change by working in various important positions in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Global Centre on Adaptation.
He worked not only for Bangladesh to combat the adverse impacts of climate change, but also for the welfare of the entire world community, Shahab uddin said in a condolence message.
Renowned climate expert Dr Saleemul Huq passed away in the early hours of today in Dhaka at the age of 71.
Deputy Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Habibun Nahar, Special Envoy to the Prime Minister for Environment and Climate Affairs and Chairman of the parliamentary Standing Committee on the ministry Saber Hossain Chowdhury and Environment Secretary Dr Farhina Ahmed have also expressed deep grief at the death of Prof Huq.
In separate messages, they prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
