Bangladesh Film Certification Bill, 2023 passed

SANGSAD BHABAN, Oct 29, 2023 (BSS) - Bangladesh Film Certification Bill, 2023 today passed in the Jatiya Sangsad with an objective of development and protecting the creativity of the film industries.
 
Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud move the bill which was passed by voice votes in the House with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
 
Piloting the bill, the minister said the proposed law will replace the Censorship of Films Act, 1963 and it will play significant role in overall development, certification and displaying of film and protecting the local film industry as well.

The proposed law although a new one but it has nothing special, said opposition lawmaker Barrister Shamim Haider Patwary.
 
Opposition lawmakers Fakhrul Imam, Rawshan Ara Mannan and Pir Fazlur Rahman, among others, took part discussion on the bill.

Single screen cinema hall now rise to two hundred in the country while the number of cinema halls now reduce to sixty-three, said the minister while advocating the law.

Replying to an allegation of not making film with the government grant, he said even there is no any single case of not making any film despite taking the grant money from the government.
