DHAKA, Nov 6, 2023 (BSS)- Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said forty percent energy would come from green sources by 2041 as per the Mujib Climate Plan declared by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“Solar and nuclear are the two main green sources. The solar energy is booming in the country and we’ve joined the nuclear club,” he said while addressing a meeting organized by Bangladesh Climate Change Journalists Forum (BCCJF) marking the upcoming COP-28 at his secretariat office here.
Dr Hasan said, global temperature rise could not be tapped to 1.5 degrees as per the Paris Agreement. Sea level is rising by an average three to four millimeters in every year, which is much more in some parts of the world including this region, he said.
Dr Hasan Mahmud said, there is no alternative to massive global actions to mitigate the changes. The climate is changing due to many reasons created by people.
“Our awareness can only solve the problems,” he said adding that journalists can play a vital role to aware the people.
The minister regretted that politics of different countries are in the grip of arms traders which led to draw less attention to climate change and give support to global climate trust fund.
The minister extended thanks to the journalists forum for playing role in creating awareness among the people about the environment and climate change.
BCCJF president Kawsar Rahman, general secretary Motahar Hossain, joint general secretary Masudul Haque, members Rafiqul Islam Ratan, Riman Mahfuz, Ummul Wara Sweety and Alamgir Swapan, among others, addressed the meeting.
