NAOGAON, Nov 6, 2023 (BSS) - Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder said social safety net programme of the government is promoting poverty reduction and enhancing living standard of underprivileged people.
He was addressing a view-exchange meeting with beneficiaries of society safety net programme at Saraftullah Fazil Madrasah in Sapahar sadar union in the district.
The government has been continuing distribution of 30kgs rice at Taka 15 per kg under its Food Friendly Programme for the poor people while one crore people are getting rice, lentil, onion, oil and sugar at subsidized price through Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB).
Under the social safety net programme, different allowances for old age people, widows, deserted and destitute women, families of Liberation War martyrs and war-wound freedom fighters, hijra and bede community, he mentioned.
Farmers are getting agricultural stimulus, he added.
Awami League's Sapahar Sadar Union president Md Sadekul Islam chaired the meeting while Sapahar Upazila AL president Md Shamsul Alam Shah Chowdhury and general secretary Masud Reza Sarwar and upazila chairman Md Sahjahan Hossain also spoke.
Earlier, Sadhan Chandra inaugurated a newly built building of Mohojid Para High School in the upazila.
