DHAKA, Nov 14, 2023 (BSS) - The Election Commission (EC) will hold a press briefing over the schedule of the 12th Jatiya Sangsad election at 10am tomorrow at Nirbachan Bhaban in the city's Agargaon, EC secretary Jahangir Alam told reporters today.

Replying to a question, Alam said the letter of US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu won't have any effect on the EC's polls schedule announcement.

The commission is yet to be apprised whether the letter is about a call for dialogue over polls as it didn't come to the EC, he said.

The EC secretary said the commission will go ahead in line with its constitutional responsibility.

The EC sources said the commission will hold a meeting at 5pm tomorrow and the chief election commissioner (CEC) may announce the polls schedule through an address to the nation after the meeting.

Security has been beeped up in and around the Nirbachan Bhaban and its adjoining areas.

Personal hearing for correction of national identity card at the commission building has been shut from Tuesday.
