DHAKA, Nov 16, 2023 (BSS) - Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq today said acceptable election is the one where people cast their votes.
"Which party is participating in polls, and which is not, is not a big deal. The election will be deemed acceptable if people cast their votes as they are the source of all power," the law minister said while talking to newsmen at his secretariat office.
Anisul further said the present government will not do anything beyond the constitution as people did not give such mandate. "Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman gave us the constitution, we will move forward as per this constitution," he added.
The law minister said then BNP government in 2006 had increased the chief justice's retirement age in an unconstitutional way to make him the chief adviser of caretaker government.
"As people did not accept that, caretaker government had to come. Though they were supposed to be in power for three months, they were in power for two years," he also said.
