Film artistes form human chain against BNP's blockade, hartal

DHAKA, Nov 18, 2023 (BSS) - Renowned film artistes and media personalities today formed a human chain at Shahbagh protesting the ongoing unstable situation and daily hurdles being faced by the people due to the blockade-strikes called by BNP and likeminded parties.

The human chain was formed in front of the National Museum with the slogan 'Artiste Society against destruction' to express their determination to elect Sheikh Hasina as the Prime Minister again, said a release.

"The number of women entrepreneurs has significantly increased during the period of the present government. But now we are facing instabilities more than we faced during the COVID-19 lockdowns because of the blockades and hartals," said Bangladesh Film Artistes' Association General Secretary and Actress Nipun Akter.

Shomi Kaiser, renowned actress and daughter of martyred intellectual Shaidullah Kaiser said, "The artistes society of Bangladesh always stood for the truth and there is nothing more true to us than the great liberation war of 1971".

Film Actor Riaz Ahmed said, "Today we are standing here against the atrocity. Those who killed Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975 are creating menace by attacking police, vandalizing hospitals and even the Chief Justice's residence. To me, it is treason".

Actresses Tarin Jahan, Jyotika Jyoti, Mahiya Mahi and Shampa Reza, actors Ferdous and Tushar Khan, director Salhuddin Lavlu and singer SD Rubel joined it, among others.
