CHATTOGRAM, Nov 29, 2023 (BSS)-Dr. Fariduddin Khaled Sharif, (FRCS) a distinguished language hero and social worker living in Canada passed away at 12.30 pm yesterday at Unipeg, Canada, due to old age complications. (Inna lillah wainna ilaihe rajioon).
He was 90.
The death of the social worker Dr. Fariduddin cast a shadow of mourning on the Bengali community in Canada. He was buried in the local Muslim community cemetery after the funeral on Tuesday in Unipeg, Canada.
Dr Khaled Sharif was born in a noble family in Perala village under Patiya upazila of the district.
Dr. Fariduddin Khaled was the founder of Ashraf Uddin Chowdhury High School in Pirkhain village under Anwara Upazila of Chattogram and was involved in philanthropic activities including financial support to many mosques-madrasas and charitable institutions in Pirkhain, Iqbal Uddin Sharif, cousin of Dr. Fariduddin informed the media.
It may be mentioned that late Dr. Sharif was actively involved in the language movement in 1952 while studying at Dhaka Medical College. He was arrested and imprisoned at one stage of his participation to the movement.
He is the founder president of Bangladesh Association of Manitoba in Canada and played an important role in organizing public opinion and collecting financial funds in Canada in favor of country’s Liberation War through this association in 1971.
After completing his education from Dhaka Medical College, he started his career permanently in Canada with a higher degree in medicine from Edinburgh in Canada.
During a long and distinguished career he was well known throughout Canada as a skilled orthopedic surgeon.
