Construction work of 97 cyclone shelter centers progressing fast in Bhola

     BHOLA, Sept 8, 2021 (BSS)- Construction work of 97 cyclone shelter
centers is going on in full swing in seven upazilas of the district under the
"Multipurpose Disaster Shelter Project" of the Department of Local Government
Engineering (LGED) Division.

     The Local Government Engineering Department is constructing the cyclone
shelter centers at the cost of Taka 528 crore, LGED office sources said.

     About 40 percent construction work of the cyclone shelter centers has
been completed which was started in March last year. The rest of the work of
the three-storey school-cum cyclone shelter center is expected to be
completed next March.

     During the disaster time, at least two lakh people can take shelter at
the centers, said executive engineer of the district LGED Mohammad Ibrahim
Khalil.

     Besides, construction work of 42 cyclone shelter centers at a cost of
Taka 240 crore has already been completed under the same project. The
capacity of the people of this region to deal with disasters and people of
the area will be able to take shelter in this center, he added.

     Among the cyclone shelters, 17 are in Bhola Sadar upazila, nine in
Daulatkhan upazila, 10 in Borhanuddin upazila, 22 in Lalmohan upazila, 10 in
Tajumuddin upazila, 23 in Charfashion upazila and six in Manpura upazila,
sources said.
