DHAKA, Dec 5, 2023 (BSS) - The first death anniversary of former political adviser to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Bangabandhu Parishad President Dr S A Malek will be observed tomorrow.
Marking the day, Central Bangabandhu Parishad and metropolitan Bangabandhu Parishad are organizing separate memorial meetings at JPC and the Central Library respectively in the city.
On August 18, 1936, he was born at Tangail as his father late Al-haj Sheikh Abdur Razzak was posted there as a forest officer.
His ancestral home is Syed Mahalla village under Fakirhat Police Station in Bagerhat district.
In 1973, he was elected parliament member as the Awami League nominee from Faridpur-1 (Goalondo-Rajbari) constituency.
Dr Malek played a vital role in putting up an effective resistance movement after Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was brutally killed along with most of his family members on August 15, 1975.
In 1980, he concentrated on organizing the Bangabandhu Parishad. He served as the general secretary of the Bangabandhu Parishad for a long time. From September 7, 2021, he served as the president of the Bangabandhu Parishad.
S A Malek served as political advisor to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from 1996 to 2001.
