DHAKA, Dec 6, 2023 (BSS) - Bangabandhu Parishad President Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique today called upon the people to raise their voice against unconstitutional activities like setting fire on vehicles in the name of politics.

"In democracy, opposition parties have rights to enforce hartal or blockade. But in the name of hartal, arson terrorism is being carried out which is totally undemocratic and unconstitutional as people have rights to move freely as per the constitution," he said.

Prof Arefin, also former vice-chancellor of Dhaka University (DU), was addressing a memorial meeting on Bangabandhu Parishad former president Dr S A Malek on his first death anniversary at Jatiya Press Club here.

Paying glowing tributes to Dr Malek, the incumbent president of Bangabandhu Parishad said Malek devotedly ran the organization as he had no expectations for any positions.

He urged all to imbue with the ideology, organizational and humanitarian qualities of SA Malek to make their marks for the country.

Bangabandhu Parishad general secretary Prof ABM Faroque, Dr Malek's son and Parishad's joint general secretary Dr Abdullah Al Mamun, DU social sciences faculty dean Prof Zia Rahman, DU television, film and photography department's Prof AJM Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan and Barishal University former vice-chancellor Prof Sadequl Arefin, Bangabandhu Parishad joint general secretary Matiur Rahman Laltu, organizing secretary Dr Ayubur Rahman, presidium member Ajit Kumar Sarkar and forest and environment secretary Nesar Ahmed Bhuiyan also spoke.
