DHAKA, Dec 10, 2023 (BSS) - Chief of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Mohammad Harun-Or-Rashid today told newsmen that BNP is violating human rights in the name of so-called politics or movement.

While talking to the journalists at DB office located in the Minto road area here, he said: "BNP brutally beat and killed policemen in the name of so-called politics or agitation, and even they vandalized the police hospital and set fire to an ambulance."

"Is this not a violation of human rights? To whom will we ask for justice?" he raised the question.

According to the United Nations (UN) Charter, every human being has the rights to live and self-defence, he said.
"I'm a policeman, but first, I am a human being. I also have the right," he said. "Don't I have the right to live?" he asked.

Replying to another query, he said that BNP had carried out various destructive activities even before October 28.

"For these activities, they divided the Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal into eight groups. Their leaders beat the police and attacked police vehicles," he added.

"No civilized nation can do such thing . . . But they attacked the hospital," he added.

Not only hospitals were attacked, but also ambulances were burnt, he said, adding that the law enforcers have arrested many of them from Dhaka and outside the capital city.
