NEW DELHI, Dec 16, 2023 (BSS) - The Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi
today celebrated the Victory Day of Bangladesh in a befitting manner.
The day's programmes began this morning with hoisting of the national flag on
the High Commission premises and placing floral wreaths at the portrait of
the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
A discussion was organized at the Chancery premises as part of the
celebration of the day. Besides, messages from the President, Prime Minister,
Foreign Minister and State Minister for Foreign Affairs were read out on the
occasion while a documentary on the Liberation War of Bangladesh was also
screened.
Taking part in the discussion, Md Mustafizur Rahman, Bangladesh High
Commissioner to India, recalled the contribution of Bangabandhu and his
unparallel leadership and the supreme sacrifice of millions of freedom-loving
people to liberate Bangladesh as an independent and sovereign state.
He said that the main goal of the Liberation War was to build a liberal,
developed, contributing, egalitarian and democratic state through complete
emancipation.
"We must sharpen our collective vows and commitments to achieve that
inspirational goal," he said while shedding the light on Bangladesh's
impressive socio-economic progress made over the last decade-and-a-half under
the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He called upon all to contribute to the development process of Bangladesh by
upholding the noble spirit of victory and the ideals of Bangabandhu in their
hearts.
Minister (Consular) Selim Md. Jahangir also took part in the discussion and
highlighted the significance of the day.
After the discussion, a special prayer was offered for the eternal peace of
the departed souls of Father of the Nation and all the martyrs who made
supreme sacrifices during the country's Great War of Liberation and for
peace, progress and prosperity of the country.
Officials and employees of the Bangladesh High Commission and expatriate
Bangladeshis were present at the event.
