DHAKA, Dec 16, 2023 (BSS) - The qulkhwani of former student leader, actor and theatre activist Shahidur Rahman Porag will be held tomorrow at Munshibari Mosque in the Hazaribagh area after Asr prayers on Sunday, two days after he died of a heart attack at a private hospital here.
Family members requested friends and admirers to join the mildad mahfil and special prayers to seek divine blessings for the departed soul.
Porag was a prominent student leader during the anti-autocracy student and cultural movement throughout 1990s while he was the drama secretary of Jahangirnagar University Students Union (JUCSU) and president of now defunct Jatiya Chhatra League of the university unit.
He was also a stage actor and organizer of Jahangirnagar University Theatre, singer and 14th batch student of the university, having studied at its Government and Politics Department.
Porag breathed his last at age 59 at the capital's Popular Hospital at Dhanmondi, hours after he was admitted there with cardiac problem on December 14 evening, leaving behind his wife, only teenaged son alongside a large number of friends and admirers.
He was buried at Azimpur Old Graveyard after namaj-e-janaza at Hazaribagh Park, joined by a huge crowd after jumma prayers on the next day.
In his professional life, Porag was a businessman and in that connection served as Bangladesh Leather Chemical Association's vice president and was related to several social and cultural organisations in different capacities including the president of Hazaribagh Modern Club.
