DHAKA, Dec 16, 2023 (BSS) - Local Government, Rural Development (LGRD) and Cooperatives Minister Tajul Islam today called for reaching the benefits of the country's independence, which has been achieved under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, to all.
 
"We have to work together to deliver the benefits of the independence, achieved under the leadership of Bangabandhu, to all the people of the country," he said.
 
The minister said this at a discussion organized by Dhaka South City Corporation at 'Sommukh Plaza' at Nagar Bhaban here as the chief guest on the occasion of Great Victory Day-2023, said a press release.
 
Later, a cultural programme was also held there, the release added.
 
Tajul also urged all to work together to build a humane and discrimination-free society side by side, ensuring the economic progress of the country.
 
The victory day (today) has been achieved in exchange for an ocean of blood, he said, adding that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman united the Bengali nation to prepare for the struggle for freedom of the country.
 
 
After the country's independence, he worked to rebuild war-torn Bangladesh, but the conspirators killed the Father of the Nation with most of his family in 1975 to stop the development of Bangladesh, the minister said.
 
The efforts of the anti-liberation forces did not succeed, he said, adding that Bangladesh is moving forward today under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangabandhu's worthy daughter.
 
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh presided over the discussion while Chief Executive Officer of the Corporation Mizanur Rahman gave a welcome speech on the occasion.
 
Dhaka South City unit of Awami League General Secretary Humayun Kabir spoke as special guest, among others.
