DHAKA, Dec 16, 2023 (BSS) - Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today hoped that Bangladesh Betar would keep role in building a developed, rich and humanitarian state.
"Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra encouraged the Bangalee nation during the great Liberation War," he told discussion organised by Bangladesh Betar marking the Victory Day and 84th founding anniversary of the state owned radio at its head office in city's Agargaon area.
Bangladesh Betar Director General Rabindra Sree Barua presided over the discussion.
Dr Hasan paid glowing tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other martyrs of his family, national four leaders and all martyrs of the great Liberation War.
"The people, who listened the programmes of Swadhin Bangla Kendra, know that how inspired the programmes at that time among the freedom-loving persons. And people were eagerly waiting to listen the programmes," he said.
The minister said during the Liberation War, Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra inspired all the freedom-loving people of the country, while radio has also played a major role in the country's reconstruction after its independence.
Radio is playing a very important role in nation building activities and many of the radio programs are very good and have a wide appeal to the masses in rural areas, said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.
He said radio is the only resource to the boatmen in the Bay of Bengal. Even listeners can hear it in the mountains also, he added.
The function was followed by a musical soiree.
