DHAKA, Dec 17, 2023 (BSS) - Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed today handed over honorary awards among army personnel for their heroic contribution to the peacekeeping mission of the United Nations (UN) and the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) region. 

He was handed over the awards as the chief guest at a function held at the Army Multipurpose Complex in Dhaka Cantonment, an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release said.

Former Army Chief Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Haq and senior army officials, among others, were present at the function. 
 
The army chief said, "Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had a dream to build a Sonar Bangla. Members of Bangladesh Army have been working to maintain peace in CHT region to fulfill the dream. 

He said many members of Bangladesh army have been made supreme sacrifices while performing their duties to maintain peace in the CHT region. 

Besides, General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed said alongside maintaining peace in the country, members of Bangladesh army have been working with utmost sincerity to establish peace at the international levels. 

The nation will remember the contributions of army personnel with due respect forever, he added. 

The army chief recalled the contribution of those army personnel who sacrificed their lives while performing their duties and conveyed deep sympathy to members of their families.
