DHAKA, Dec 18, 2023 (BSS) - Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib
Medical University (BSMMU) Md. Sharfuddin Ahmed today laid emphasis on
stopping sale of antibiotics without prescription of doctors.

"Antibiotics should be prescribed after performing necessary tests. Doctors
must know latest efficacy of antibiotics," he told a function of publishing
report on sensitivity of antimicrobial at the Shahid Dr Milton Hall of BSMMU,
a press release said.

Department of Microbiology and Immunology of BSMMU published the report of
antimicrobial sensitivity of all types of germs at the function.

The BSMMU VC called for ensuring appropriate use of antibiotics to get
recovery from various diseases.

Other health experts said Anti-microbial resistance (AMR) has become an
epidemic in the world now. If it is not prevented now, it will take a more
serious turn in future, they added.
