DHAKA, Dec 27, 2023 (BSS) - Election Commission (EC) has fined Taka one lakh to Awami League (AL)-nominated candidate for Cumilla-6 AKM Bahauddin Bahar and Tk 50,000 to Barguna-1 candidate Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu for violating the electoral code of conduct.

The Election Commission gave these verdicts after holding hearings at Nirbachan Bhaban in the city's Agargaon area today.

Later, EC Secretariat Additional Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath disclosed the matter to media saying that both candidates have to pay their fines through treasury challan to the returning officer within three days.

Following this, the returning officer will inform the EC, he added.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal and Election Commissioner Md Alamgir and Md Anisur Rahman were present on the occasion.

The commission summoned these two candidates to appear in person to explain the allegations of violation of electoral code of conduct.
