DHAKA, Dec 28, 2023 (BSS) - Around 180 foreign observers from 35 countries have applied to the Election Commission to monitor the upcoming national election to be held on January 7 next, said foreign ministry's Spokesperson Seheli Sabrin today.
The spokesperson said, so far, 10 foreign observers have received approval to observe the polls while the process for others is underway, said at a weekly briefing at foreign ministry here.
Sabrin said journalists from international media outlets have also applied to the Election Commission to cover the polls.
She said their accreditation process will start when the election commission will complete the scrutinizing task.
Besides, Sabrin said around 30 officials from election commissions of various countries will also come to monitor the election.
She said the foreign ministry is still working on allocation of budget for managing the international observers.
On Wednesday night, foreign minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said the government welcome all around the world to come here and observe the polls as it is committed to hold a free, fair and transparent election.
"We want all from the entire world to come and see, and learn from us," he told journalists after his meeting with a team of European Union (EU) experts at his residence in Sylhet.
