DHAKA, Jan 3, 2024 (BSS) - Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), in different drives, seized smuggled goods, arms, ammunition and drugs worth Taka 266.74 crore from different border areas of the country in December, 2023.
The smuggled goods and contraband items included 11.643 kg of gold, 5.200 grams of silver, 1, 70,589 pieces of cosmetics, 1,358 pieces of imitation ornaments, 12,406 pieces of sarees, 7,971 pieces of three piece/shirt piece/ bed sheet/ blanket/ readymade garments, 3,864 cubic feet of wood, 17,127 kg of tea, 44,515 kg of coal, one black stone statue, 12 trucks, three buses, seven pickups, six private cars/ microbus, 18 CNG/easybikes and 12 motorcycles, said a BGB release here today.
BGB personnel also recovered nine pistols, two guns, 13 magazines, one hand grenade, 20 kg gun powder, 12 kg of explosives, 17.200 grams of potassium nitrate and 316 round bullets.
A large quantity of narcotics was also seized by the BGB last month.
The seized drugs include 11.56 lakh pieces of Yaba tablets, 34.574 gram of crystal meth Ice, 42.935 kg of heroin, 14,468 bottles of phensidyl, 30,489 bottles of foreign liquor, 6,512 liters of local liquor, 5,91,600 pieces of narcotic tablets, 2,270 cans of bear, 15 bottles of LSD, 1,294 kg of cannabis,64,197 packets of bidi and cigarette, 46,094 pieces of stimulating injections, 3,363 pieces of contraband syrup, 1.900 kg of cocaine, 1,131 bottles of MKdil/Cofidil, 5,12,746 pieces of various medicine, 781 packets of pesticides and 13,48,644 other tablets, the release said.
The BGB also arrested 143 persons who were involved with drug and commodity smuggling in the border areas and also arrested 23 Bangladeshi, three Indian and 150 Myanmar citizens for illegally crossing the border.
