DHAKA, Jan 7, 2024 (BSS) - Election Commissioner Md Anisur Rahman expressed his optimism that over 50 percent of votes could be cast in the 12th parliamentary election.

Talking to journalists after casting his vote at the Dhaka City College centre around 8:30 in the morning, he said, "I hope that over 50 percent of the votes will be cast."

Voting began at 8:00am in 299 out of 300 seats in the national parliament election as polling in the Naogaon-2 constituency was earlier suspended due to the death of a candidate.

The polling will continue till 4:00pm.
