DHAKA, Jan 7, 2024 (BSS) - The Election Commission (EC) today canceled the candidacy of Bangladesh Awami League (AL) nominated candidate Mostafizur Rahman Chowdhury in Chittagong-16 (Banshkhali) constituency.

Briefing the newsmen at Election Commission secretariat, EC secretary Mohammad Jahangir Alam informed that the action was taken against Mustafizur, an incumbent lawyer, as he threatened law enforcement officials, which is the violation of electoral code of conduct.

The EC secretary said some stray incidents occurred at the outside of 30-35 voting centers.
He said 15 persons including, presiding, assistant presiding officers, were punished for fake voting or assisting in fake voting.
