DHAKA, Jan 11, 2024 (BSS) - A property developer here today gave confessional statement under section 164 in a case lodged over killing of his wife Tamanna Islam in capital's Lalmatia area.

Police produced accused Mahmudul Hasan Helal before the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mehedi Hasan and pleaded to record his confessional statement. After recording Helal's statement, the court sent him to jail.

According to the case documents, Helal suffered a hefty loss in business recently and was in huge debt. He was suffering from depression and tried to kill his wife and son on different occasions.

On January 10, Tamanna's parents, housel maid rushed to Tamanna's bedroom, listening her son Tahsin Shahriar's, 11, call for help. There they saw Helal was trying to strangle his son. As they shouted out loud, Helal took him in lap and fled to the rooftop.

Tamanna's parents then saw her lifeless body lying on a pool of blood on her bed and found the shil pata, grinding stone, beside her.

Tamanna was declared dead by attending doctors as they rushed her to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital. Neighbours in the meantime, caught Mahmudul Hasan Helal and handed him over to police.
