AH Mahmood Ali becomes new Finance Minister, Nurul Majid retains portfolio as Industries Minister

DHAKA, Jan 11, 2024 (BSS) - Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali has become the new Finance Minister while Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun retained his position as the Minister for Industries.

On the other hand, Major General (retd) Abdus Salam has become the new Planning Minister while Ahsanul Islam (Titu) has become the new State Minister for Commerce.

Earlier in the evening, Awami League president Sheikh Hasina, elder daughter of the country's founding father, formed the government for the fourth consecutive term with a 37-member cabinet as she took oath as the prime minister for fifth term.

Immediately after that, her council of ministers which included 25 ministers and 11 state ministers also took oath.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin administered the oath of office and oath of secrecy to Sheikh Hasina and her new ministers at Durbar Hall of Bangabhaban at 7.06pm.

After the swearing-in, Sheikh Hasina signed the oath of office and oath of secrecy followed by the Ministers and State Ministers.

New Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali served as AL parliamentarian from Dinajpur and also as cabinet minister including the Foreign Minister and as the Minister of Disaster Management and Relief.

Abdus Salam, a retired major general, is the Member of Parliament of Mymensingh-9 constituency from Awami League.

Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun is the incumbent member of parliament from Narsingdi-4, the constituency encompasses Belabo and Manohardi upazilas.

 He is also the immediate past Minister of Industries since 2019.

Ahsanul Islam Titu is a member of parliament from Awami League from Tangail-6. Titu was the founding president of the Dhaka Stock Exchange's Brokerage Association.
