Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia to ink agreement on judiciary

DHAKA, Jan 25, 2024 (BSS) -Bangladesh and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) are going to sign an agreement on mutual cooperation between the judiciaries of the two countries and the content of the accord has already been sent to the gulf nation.

Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Bangladesh Essa Bin Youssef Al Duhailan today called on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affair Minister Anisul Huq at his office here to discuss progress in this regard, an official release said today.

"We had a very fruitful meeting. We both agreed on improving existing relationships between the two countries. The Saudi envoy told us that the Muslim world thinks Sheikh Hasina as their sister and they are keen to further strengthen this relation," Law Minister Anisul Huq told newsmen after the meeting.

Anisul, an eminent lawyer himself, today again talked about the questions raised by many on the total number lawmakers in the country at present.

When asked whether there is any ambiguity in the law regarding the matter, the law minister said, "The country is running as per what is in the constitution now and it was not included in the constitution today. It was added in the 14th Amendment. The matter that is being discussed now is probably not that important. Still, I would say, if the policymakers feel the need for further clarification, we will look into the matter."
