Independent MPs will remain as independent: Quader

DHAKA, Jan 28, 2024 (BSS) - Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said the independent parliamentarians will remain as independent ones.
 
"But they (independent lawmakers) can make constructive criticism of the government. Our parliamentary leader and party president Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has made this thing clear," he told reporters after the premier's meeting with independent lawmakers at Ganabhaban here tonight.
 
Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said there were some conflict, violence and internal feud between the boat symbol of the AL and independent candidates, while sporadic and isolated incidents are taking place in many places still the date.
 
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instructed her party men to resolve those immediately, he said.
 
The AL general secretary said the independent lawmakers mentioned that their emotions and sentiments got hurt to identify themselves with other identity except AL men.
 
"In such circumstances, we have to settle our disputes and conflicts. Everyone should work unitedly to implement the AL's election manifesto," he said.
 
About the parliamentary seats reserved for women, Quader said the independent parliament members will support those nominated by Leader in the House and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
