NAOGAON, Feb 4, 2024 (BSS) - Election Commissioner Begum Rasheda Sultana today said as the election, held on January 7, was transparent, it was welcomed by all parties.
"The 12th parliamentary election was held accordingly and impartially, and it has taken the Election Commission to a new height. The Election Commission will not move away from this position, rather the Commission will be in a more transparent and strong position in any future elections," she said during a view-exchange meeting at the Naogaon District Commissioner's conference room here this afternoon.
The meeting was held to exchange views with the contesting candidates, returning officers, assistant returning officers and law enforcement officers, ahead of the upcoming election of Naogaon-2 (Patnitala-Dhamoirhat) constituency.
"The commission should be trustworthy to the people to keep the democratic infrastructure of a country stable. From that point, the current Election Commission is working with the utmost impartiality and integrity," she added.
"It is not possible for the Election Commission alone to make the election acceptable, fair and transparent. All concerned have their own responsibility to ensure a free, fair and peaceful election," the Election Commissioner said.
Calling on all the candidates to campaign in accordance with the Election Code of Conduct, she requested everyone to follow the necessary instructions to comply with the Election Code of Conduct.
In the meeting organized under the chairmanship of District Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner M Golam Mawla, Additional Divisional Commissioner of Rajshahi Division Dr Dewan M Humayun Kabir, Additional DIG of Rajshahi Division Faisal Mahmud, Superintendent of Police M Rashidul Haque, Regional Election Officer of Rajshahi M Delawar Hossain, Tofazzal Hossain, Naogaon-2 (Patnitala-Dhamoirhat) constituency candidate from Jatiya Party, independent candidates Engineer Aktarul Alam and Mehedi Mahmud Reza spoke at the meeting.
14 BGB captain Lt. Colonel M Hamid Uddin, RAB-5 captain Lt. Colonel Munim Ferdous along with assistant returning officers and law enforcement officials were present on the occasion.
