DHAKA, Feb 4, 2024 (BSS) - Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), in
different drives, seized smuggled goods, arms, ammunition and drugs worth Taka
146.59 crore and 82 thousands from different border areas of the country in
January in 2024 .
The smuggled goods and contraband items included 6.620 kg of gold, 1, 84,044
pieces of cosmetics, 7,874 pieces of imitation ornaments, 13,489 pieces of sarees,
12,032 pieces of three piece and shirt piece, 4,8,82 cubic feet of wood, 2,150 kg
of tea, 27,150kg of coal, two touch stone statues, a BGB press release said today.
Besides, the BGB seized 14 trucks, one bus, seven pickups, three private cars,19
CNG/easybikes and 59 motorcycles, it added.
BGB personnel also recovered nine pistols, five guns, eight magazines, 2.45 kg gun
powder, and 33 round bullets.
A large quantity of narcotics was also seized by the BGB last month.
Alongside different types of drugs, the BGB seized drugs include 10.48 lakh and
149 pieces of Yaba tablets, 8.312 gram of crystal meth Ice, 300.74 kg of heroin,
11,976 bottles of phensidyl, 19,724 bottles of foreign liquor, 2.96liters of local
liquor, 1,1,760 pieces of narcotic tablets, 1,032 cans of bear. The BGB also seized
different types of drugs.
The BGB also arrested 145 persons who were involved with drug and commodity
smuggling in the border areas and also arrested 57 Bangladeshi, six Indian citizens
and 187 Myanmar citizens for illegally crossing the border.
