DHAKA, Feb 4, 2024 (BSS) - Textile and Jute Minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak today said stern actions will be taken to ensure fair price of jute.
"I have directed relevant officials of the jute department to ensure fair price of jute," he told journalists after visiting the jute department in the city's Motijheel.
Nanak, also Awami League Presidium Member, said the government has ensured the use of jute bags in line with 'Mandatory Jute Packaging Act, 2010 enacted to save the environment and promote native products.
Urging all to use jute bags instead of polythene bags, the textile minister said "Actions will be taken if anyone uses polythene bags."
The minister said officials concerned should distribute fertilizer and jute seeds in time in order to boost jute production.
Mentioning that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working relentlessly to make a smart Bangladesh, Nanak urged all to work for the country and its people under the leadership of the Premier to achieve the desired goal.
Immediate measures will be taken to get Tangail saree's patent as the saree is the symbol of Bangladesh's rich culture and heritage, he continued.
Textile and Jute Secretary Abdur Rouf, Director General (DG) of jute department Dr. Selina Hossain and senior officials, among others, were present.
