BANDARBAN, Feb 7, 2024 (BSS)- Director General of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui today visited Tumbru and Ghumdhum border areas and exchanged views with the on-duty border guard members.
Talking to reporters at Ghumdhum High School after the visit the BGB chief said the border guard is showing highest patience and trying to face the situation giving importance to international relation with Myanmar as directed by the Prime Minister.
He asked the BGB members to remain alert and discharge their duties with utmost sincerity and professionalism to protect the country’s sovereignty and independence.
A number of Myanmar's different forces including border guard police (BGP) and security forces have taken refuge in Bangladesh, he said, adding we gave them shelter and food.
The BGB DG said discussions are going on between the officials of the two countries to send them back as soon as possible.
“Our home ministry and foreign affairs ministry are on parley with Myanmar authorities. We have also talked with the distracted Myanmar soldiers, who also want to go back quickly,” he said.
“In no circumstances we will allow any more Rohingya to enter Bangladesh territory. The situation of the territory is completely under control of BGB,” he said.
Siddiqui inquired about the health condition of the members of BGP, Myanmar army, immigration and other law enforcing agencies and visited the injured persons in the hospital.
