Saber asks Saudi Arabia to streamline remittance transfer for Bangladeshis

DHAKA, Feb 7, 2024 (BSS) - Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury today urged the Saudi government to streamline its remittance transfer process.

Describing the importance of Saudi Arabia as a major source of income for Bangladeshi workers, he said simplifying the remittance transfer process would significantly benefit the Bangladeshi expatriates.


The minister made the remarks when Saudi Ambassador to Bangladesh Essa Yussef Essa Al Dulaihan met him at the Bangladesh Secretariat here.


During the meeting, he sought Saudi cooperation to implement the Bangladesh government's climate strategies, including Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan, and to take action against pollution, improve waste management and promote renewable energy sources like solar and wind power.

Saber said collaboration between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia can lead to innovative solutions and accelerate progress towards a more sustainable future.


The Saudi envoy said Saudi Arabia has invested US$ 3 billion for renewable energy in Bangladesh.

Reiterating the Saudi Arabia's commitment to bolstering cooperation with Bangladesh in environmental initiatives, he said his country is interested in exploring partnerships with Bangladesh on initiatives like renewable energy development, sustainable development goals and climate actions.


They also discussed enhancing bilateral ties between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Bangladesh in the areas of environment conservation, and climate change mitigation.

They expressed their commitment to fostering closer ties and collaboration in addressing pressing environmental challenges, leveraging mutual expertise and resources for sustainable development.
