25 indicted in case over murder of retired CID official


 
DHAKA, Feb 14, 2024 (BSS) - A Dhaka court today framed charges against 25 in a case lodged over 2013 murder of retired additional superintendent of police of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Fazlul Karim Khan.
 
Dhaka First Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Foysal Atik Bin Qader passed the order, initiating the trial officially.
 
The accused in the case are- SM Moazzem Hossain Topu, Wasim Ahmed, Shahriar Asif, Enamul Haque, Md Selim, Md Imam Hossain, Orpon Ahmed, Shafikul Islam, Md Shahjalal, Md Habel, Qazi Masud Pervej, Md Al Amin, Hasan Abdul Baki, Abu Bakar Siddiq, Md Hemayet Hossain, Md Ruhul Amin, Shafikul Islam Badshah, Md Delwar Hossain, Md Munna, Haji Babu, Md Biplob Hossain, Nasir Sheikh, Mamun and Sujon.
 
Khan was killed in his West Rampura house in the capital on August 29, 2013. His son-in-law Barrister Chowdhury Mokim Uddin filed the case the next day. Police on July 27, 2017, filed charge-sheet against 25. But the complainant filed naraji petition against the charge-sheet filed by the detective branch of police.
 
The court later sent the case to CID for further investigation.
 
Investigation officer and CID assistant superintendent of police Ratanb Krishna Nath filed a charge-sheet against 25. Of the 25 accused, 13 are on bail and 12 are yet to be arrested.
 
According to the police, Fazlul Karim Khan was very active and vocal against the drug traders in the area. He tipped police in arresting Shahriar Asif with hundreds of bottles of phensedyl. That is why the criminals plotted to kill him to run their illicit trade freely. They later killed Khan in his house.
