DHAKA, Feb 17, 2024 (BSS) - Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun today said terrorism, militancy and extremism in Bangladesh is highly linked with the trans-boundary crimes.

He said police is working tirelessly to combat the local and global crimes through imparting its forces necessary education and training as well as engaging them with researches.

The IGP was inaugurating the eighth batch of Masters of Applied Criminology and Police Management Programme at the Police Staff College here today.

"Global crime has caused increasing criminal activities like terrorism, militancy and extremism in Bangladesh . . . However, the police is providing necessary education and training for capacity building of the force to combat local and trans-boundary crimes of all manifestations,” he said,

The IGP added: “Use of modern technology and the changing social order across the world have added multi-dimensional approach of the criminal activities.”

Mamun said, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s sincere efforts contributed to establish the Police Staff College Bangladesh in 2000 which is now making a significant role in providing training and conducting research works.

The one-year `Master of Applied Criminoly and Police Management’ course will help building ‘smart police’ through enhancing professional knowledge and excellence of the participants of the course, he hoped.

The IGP also inaugurated the newly constructed Cyber Lab of the Police Staff College and later visited the International Police Research and Innovation Centre.

Police Staff College’s Rector Dr Mollik Fakhrul Islam presided over the programme. Senior officials of Bangladesh Police, university teachers and students of the master’s programme were present there.
